Homeschooling / Distance Learning / Stay at Home Mom
Coronavirus is changing the way we live our lives in America.
In my early twenties, I had worked in Corporate America. In 2008, four months after I had my son, I started, what would be a ten year career with a multi-billion dollar biotech company working in Talent Acquisition.
In 2016, I became a stay at home mom and have been homeschooling my son for nearly four years. I decided to take my son out of school, because it was right for my family. It wasn't the traditional thing to do, but it worked for us.
I had taught my son how to read and count at the kitchen table, which got him ready for his Montessori educators. At the end of his traditional public school education, my son had completed four quarters of honor roll distinction.
Today, I have him enrolled with K12 Ohio Virtual Academy, where he takes Language, Math, History, and Science with highly skilled online teachers. There are National Clubs that offer Coding, Spanish, Art, Writing, Music, and many other subjects.
I admit, there are pros and cons to a stay at home education, but a major positive pro is that I'm able to spend more quality time with my son on a daily basis. I can take the lessons he's learning and add a little creativity to them to make them more exciting and help him be more ready to comprehend.

This method is working for us. He's able to socialize with friends, family, field trips we go on, and K12 has social events throughout the year, so kids can meet other students.
Now, with everything going on with the Coronovirus crisis, I want to encourage families to keep a positive mind frame as the way of schooling children in the US has changed tremendously. Even if it's only temporary.

Parents will be working on schoolwork you may not have seen in over 20 to 30 years. There are plenty of tools and resources online to help you with their schoolwork.
Take a deep breath, do a little at a time, take breaks and have fun with it. You're creating memories.
My heart goes out to you and all family members dealing with the affects of COVID-19.
